What initially drew you to screenwriting?

I started out as an actor. From writing cranky black box theater plays in high school to script analysis at the Atlantic Acting School at NYU to stand-up, writing was always an essential part of my performing. I grew tired of driving around the Valley to audition as the mom in another bag of food commercial audition. After I had my son, I spent his naps writing and never looked back.

What has been the biggest obstacle you've encountered so far in your screenwriting career?

The biggest obstacle is all of the reasons we went on strike. Like many writers, I’ve spent these last few years pushing against an industry-wide bottleneck. The strike helped me realize that I’m not alone.

How did Coverfly help you along your screenwriting journey?

During his webinar at the 2021 Coverfly Career Lab, Ed Solomon said something that changed my life. Instead of trying to find answers while developing your story, ask yourself questions and keep asking. BODICE RIPPERS was born from the question: “What if a wife and a princess got the f-k out?” I challenged myself to write only questions while brainstorming. The answers came in their own time, and they were so much more fun than if I only fixed surface-level plot points.

If you could give a writer currently at where you were a year ago one bit of advice, what would it be?

Touch grass. Find something to help you manage anxiety and gain faith that there’s something bigger at play working in your favor than only your hard work in a system in which so much is out of your control.
