Position Overview: The Counselor provides support to enhance the quality of patient care by working directly with the patients in a treatment setting and collaboratively as a member of the program’s multi-disciplinary team. He/She is responsible for assisting with direct clinical patient care, as well as clinically involved administrative tasks as assigned. Working in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, she/he will help provide a safe and therapeutic treatment experience for the patients served.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provides direct support to patients by providing 1-to-1 support sessions and/or facilitates groups as scheduled/assigned
- Aids to the transition of patients from Acute Treatment Services to Clinical Stabilization Services by supporting both patients through engagement and by triaging internal transition bed management
- Engages patients by creating, planning, and facilitating recovery-oriented activities
- Supports patients by facilitating and completing required employment documentation to help alleviate treatment barriers
- Facilitates patient engagement and re-engagement sessions as needed
- Completes clinical administrative tasks under the direction of the Clinical Director which may include but is not limited to: registering all admitted patients to the appropriate group assignment, assigning patients to the clinical team in the absence of the Clinical Supervisor/Director and conducting audits to ensure patient records are in good standing as assigned
- Provides group facilitation training to all onboarding staff who will be conducting group sessions, as well as any other staff assigned by the Clinical Supervisor as needing group facilitation support
- Collaborates with Clinical Director and the multi-disciplinary team to provide support and care to identified high risk patients
- Supports the clinical/case management team as directed by the Clinical Director
- Appropriately documents all patient interaction into the record for continuity of care
- Assists in providing support in family engagement with patients, including but not limited to: supporting or facilitating family orientation and/or seminars, supporting or supervising patient family visits, and contacting families with consent during treatment to help support and engage patients
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, human services, or other related field or;
- A recognized certification or licensure including 4,000 supervised clinical hours of counseling individuals with substance use disorders with a minimum of 220 hours of documented supervision
- Minimum of High School diploma/GED required
- Two years’ clinical experience in a health/human service agency
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
